Flight Details
- Airline: VietJet Air
- Class: SkyBoss
- Route: Perth (PER) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)
- Aircraft: Airbus A321neo
VietJet Air loves marketing SkyBoss with slick, ambitious taglines like “Wings for Leaders.” It promises priority perks, extra legroom, lounge access, and meals, all wrapped up at an ultra-low-cost carrier price point.
When you buy a “premium” product on a budget airline, what are you actually getting?I boarded VietJet’s Airbus A321neo on the 7-hour trek from Perth to Ho Chi Minh City to find out if SkyBoss is a hidden gem or an absolute trap.
Ground Experience & Airport Perks
- Priority Check-In & Boarding: The dedicated SkyBoss check-in desk at Perth was surprisingly fast, and priority boarding was actually enforced without the usual budget-terminal chaos.
- Lounge Access: Your ticket gets you into the partner lounge in Perth. While it’s basic compared to a flag-carrier flagship lounge, it gave me a quiet place to sit, decent Wi-Fi,
and a quick bite before boarding.
Cabin & Seat: Where the Illusion Unravels
This is where things went downhill fast.
- Standard Narrowbody Layout: Don’t let the name fool you—there are no plush recliners or lie-flat beds here. The SkyBoss cabin on the A321neo is literally standard economy in a 3×3 layout.
- The “Blocked Middle Seat”: All you are getting extra is a regular economy seat with the middle seat kept empty for extra elbow room.
- Legroom & Comfort: The pitch is marginally better than dense economy rows, but the seat padding is paper-thin and the recline is minimal. On a 7-hour flight, my back was feeling it halfway through.
Catering & Connectivity
- Pre-Selected Hot Meals: Meal service consists of a hot dish chosen from their buy-on-board menu. Portions are tiny, served in disposable aluminum foil with plastic cutlery. It’s strictly economy-tier food.
- Snacks & Drinks: Bottled water and basic soft drinks are included, but the selection is bare-bones.
- Zero Connectivity: No seatback screens, no streaming IFE, no Wi-Fi, and—worst of all—no power outlets or USB ports at the seat. Trying to survive a 7-hour international flight with no way to charge your devices is a massive pain.
Service
The crew were polite and efficient during the meal service, but interaction was strictly transactional. Once the single tray was cleared, the cabin crew vanished for the rest of the flight.
Pros & Cons
| Pros | Cons |
| Priority check-in, baggage, and boarding | Standard 3×3 economy seat with just a blocked middle |
| Lounge access included in Perth | No screens, Wi-Fi, power outlets, or USB ports |
| Worth considering only on a deep discount | Basic, small-portion buy-on-board style meals |
| Quick exit upon arrival | Rock-hard seat padding for a 7-hour sector |
The Verdict
SkyBoss is not Business Class, it’s Premium Economy at best, and glorified Economy Plus with priority airport perks at worst.
If you manage to snatch a SkyBoss ticket during a massive promo fare, the lounge access and extra space might just justify the bump over standard VietJet economy. But if you step on board expecting a true Business Class product with solid comfort, decent food, and a place to charge your phone, you’re going to be deeply disappointed.
It’s a brutal reminder that on ultra-budget airlines, fancy labels rarely equal real comfort.
