Singapore Airlines’ New Business Class Review

Flight details

  • Airline: Singapore Airline
  • Class: Business
  • Aircraft: Airbus A320-200
  • Route: Colombo (CMB) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
  • Flight time: 3 Hours 40 Minutes

Today we are flying Singapore Airlines who loves the big planes. The Airbus A380s, Boeing 747s or 777s have always been the backbone of their Fleet.

In 50 years of operation, only 60 narrow-body planes have ever flown for Singapore Airlines but now, they have made a comeback in the form of the 737 Max. That’s not all, they also introduced a brand new business class seat on this bird taking narrow-body business class travel to the next level.

Read on for the full review of Singapore Airlines’ 737 Max Business Class.

I started my journey at 4 am at Singapore Changi Airport. Singapore has fully opened to tourists again post-pandemic and all four terminals are fully operational.

My trip departed from Terminal 2. Singapore Airlines offers a dedicated check-in area for business class passengers which allows us to breeze through to our next stop, the Singapore Airlines business class lounge.

Singapore Airline Business Class Lounge at Changi Airport

The business class lounge is very impressive when it comes to the interior and cleanliness, it was absolutely spotless. The beverage options are really good as well, but what I don’t get is that there was no buffet or hot food.

That can be forgiven since it was 4 am but why not at least have some sandwich options or something something to snack on? I found that very odd especially as a paying business class customer.

After my visit to the lounge, it was time for me to catch the shuttle to the gate. Singapore Airlines is operating three daily flights to Chennai. One flight on the 737 Max and two on the 787 Dreamliner.

The 737 Max was originally operated by SilkAir which was part of Singapore Airlines serving mostly Regional destinations or lower demand routes in the SQ network. But by the end of 2021, SilkAir had stopped operating and fully merged with its parent company.

The beauty of being at the airport at 4 am, is that you have it all to yourself. There was literally nobody there.

I don’t know if you guys can relate, but I always need to be at the airport at least four hours prior to departure in case something happens at the check-in counter or there’s some crisis that you have to deal with.

It’s additional effort, but it’s well worth it especially here when I was walking through the empty terminal, I couldn’t help but feel inspired as I walked in solitude listening to the beautiful background piano music.

The Singapore Airline 737 Max Business Class Cabin

It was then time to finally board and Singapore Airlines is currently operating 15 737 Max aircrafts with a further 22 to join the fleet soon.

Welcome on board Singapore Airlines’ latest business class cabin with 10 seats in total. The best seats are without a doubt the “throne” seats which offer unmatched privacy and total comfort.

While the other seats come in handy when travelling with a friend or family, you’re probably wondering what the price difference is between the seats.

There is none! You’re just going to be very quick to pick your seat when booking yourself on a business class seat on the 737 Max.

The SQ Airline Business Class Seat Review

My first impression was just wow, it’s pretty impressive. I’ve been on these kinds of throne seats on a narrow body before in the same configuration but this one was a little bit more advanced in terms of quality.

The throne seat comes with plenty of storage space, a universal power outlet with USB, noise cancelling headphones, a pillow and a blanket. You also get a huge screen in front of you which can be operated with a remote control in your armrest.

When it comes to details, Singapore Airlines paid attention to everything down to the fabric, the design, the screen, the storage room and more. It was very impressive I must say which is something you expect from Singapore Airlines.

The only tiny thing that was annoying was the storage cabinet door was broken so I couldn’t fully close it. But other than that it was a pretty nice seat.

Singapore Airlines Business Class In-Flight Entertainment

Once we were airborne, I checked out the in-flight entertainment on this Singapore Airline flight, which offered plenty of options.

Whether it’s Hollywood, Bollywood, or South Korean movies, there was content available for everyone. I personally enjoyed the live TV options, watching the BBC or sports channels.

As a business class passenger on Singapore Airlines, you get complimentary internet access for the duration of your flight, which even helps you to track your own flight.

Eating a Burger on a Plane!

It was soon time for breakfast, and once the crew was released, they began the meal service.

Given it was a flight to India, the menu offered was a Western-style or Indian breakfast, but I didn’t pick either because, on Singapore Airlines business class, you can pre-order your meal of choice.

It’s called “Book the Cook” and there are plenty of options for you, including an Angus beef burger which I ordered for breakfast. Yes, that’s right, a burger.

I’ve never had a burger on a flight before, and this one looked delicious, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it and give it a try.

Concluding the meal service—it was incredible. The burger was sensational, I highly recommend it. If you are going to splurge on Singapore Airlines business class, make sure you Book the Cook.

Lavatory on the Singapore Airlines 737 Max

If you’re wondering what the lavatory looks like on the 737 Max on Singapore Airlines, it’s very compact and rather small.

I always wondered why the Airbus 220 has larger loos than the 737 or the 320, but there you are. You have a few amenities in the lavatory and that’s pretty much it.

Overall it looked like it was in good condition, looked nice and neat.

Can You Lay Flat on Singapore Airlines Business Class?

The flatbed situation on the 737 Max, I mean, if you’re a big guy, it would probably be a bit cramped, but other than that it was very comfortable and it’s very private.

While I was doing my loo review, the crew left some slippers and eye shades at my seat. This was a three-and-a-half-hour flight, not many airlines actually give out slippers and eye shades on such short distances, so that was once again pretty impressive from Singapore Airlines.

The pillows were so comfortable that I almost felt like taking one home with me. The blankets were comfortable as well. Overall, a solid 8 out of 10.

Singapore Airlines 737 Max Business Class – Bottom Line

How do I summarise my flight experience on the new 737 Max of Singapore Airlines? It is definitely worth it. It’s an incredible product. I am really impressed.

The burger was sensational, that was something else. The seat is very comfortable for a narrow-body aeroplane.

The crew was incredible, they were always following up, and very present in the cabin, I really like that. You can’t go wrong with Singapore Airlines in business class. You’ve got to be very, very unlucky to have a bad flight with them in the premium cabin.
